Crews are laying the foundation for a new large-scale project next to the mall in Albany. The construction area is fenced off as workers prepare the ground and begin the first parts of a new addition to the property – a hotel.
The new hotel will be a dual-branded Hilton and take up a large part of the land that used to be a Sears store and much of its parking lot on the eastern side of the mall property.
The construction comes as the city, county, and developers aim to bring a new energy into the area’s ailing retail hub. The hotel is one step to transform the area into a hospitality and entertainment space.
The new 162-room hotel, which will provide accomodations for short term and extended stay traverlers, is starting construction first. Then it will be accompanied by another build: a pickleball and tennis courts installation as well as an upcoming entertainment and food venue.

The construction progress is new but this Albany, GA project has been underway for some time.
In 2024, the hotel project was announced. Later in 2025, the city, county, and developers made public announcements that the pickleball and entertainment project would become a reality.
This new construction comes almost a year after the completion of another large commercial build just steps away – an Academy Sports + Outdoors store. That retail store claims 55,000 square feet of space, and has become an instrumental piece in the entire plan.
Construction is expected to be complete in 2027. What do you think about this work at the Albany Mall?
