DEEP – Dougherty Economic Empowerment Pool

In our recent Albany Forward Community Survey, “Economic Development” polled as the top concern among Albany voters in 2023. In the past years, we’ve lost several big companies and several jobs along with them. Local contractors miss opportunities and many local contracts are awarded to foreign entities that take those millions right out of our community. Along with attracting new large industry here, we feel it’s important to invest directly in the small business community in Albany. Local businesses are the ones sponsoring little league teams, donating to school programs, and hosting local events. We need to prioritize the local business owners that are tirelessly working to move Albany Forward.
Our goal is to award $50,000 to small disadvantaged businesses on the South & East sides of town. [(5) $5K, (2) $7500, (1) $10,000]. Our goal with the DEEP is to directly inject capital into the small business community in a way that promotes growth and reinvestment in the local economy. We’re raising funds to donate to small businesses in the form of mini-grants and awards for participating in a full business pitch contest paneled by investor judges. The Dougherty Economic Empowerment Pool will arm business owners of all seasons with tools and resources to grow their businesses and propel themselves into the future of their respective industries. Expert speakers in areas concerning business capital, AI, grant opportunities, winning local & federal contracts, and more will provide guests with valuable insight and other resources to ensure success and sustainability.
